From 14–17 September 2025, Athens hosted the EUROTOX Conference, one of the world’s leading gatherings in the field of toxicology. The event attracted thousands of participants from academia, industry, and regulatory bodies, and served as a platform to share the latest scientific developments, promote innovative methodologies, and foster collaboration across disciplines.
INSIGHT was represented by Prof. Dario Greco and Dr. Alexandra Schaffert of Tampere University, who both delivered presentations in the session “Crossing Boundaries: Non-Animal Methods Linking Human and Environmental Health.” Dr. Schaffert also contributed as session chair, underlining the active role of INSIGHT in the international toxicology community.
Their talks introduced INSIGHT’s novel framework and the concept of Impact Outcome Pathways (IOPs), which expand traditional toxicological models to integrate environmental, health, and socio-economic dimensions. These presentations showcased how the project is contributing to the advancement of New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) and supporting the implementation of Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) strategies.
Beyond the scientific sessions, EUROTOX provided a valuable opportunity for networking and exchange. The INSIGHT team connected with colleagues from sister projects and international partners, including Periklis Tsiros (NATIONAL TECHNICAL UNIVERSITY OF ATHENS) and Denis Sarigiannis (ARISTOTLE UNIVERSITY OF THESSALONIKI), fostering dialogue and exploring possibilities for future collaboration.
The feedback received during the conference confirmed the relevance of INSIGHT’s methodological innovations and opened new perspectives for collaboration at the interface of toxicology, data science, and sustainability.
